Using 3 simple techniques to improve physical health, boost your immune system and eliminate emotional pain.

COVID-19 pandemic is teaching us already to take additional precautions to stay healthy.

We make sure to air our homes frequently during a day and disinfect the surfaces in our home. Washing hands for 20 seconds and practicing social distancing and covering our nose and mouth are key to preventing the spread of the virus. However, having a strong immune system that can fight back against the germs you may encounter is of vital importance.

You may have a weakened immune system if you experiencing the following symptoms:

- you're often sick or have a cold

- feel fatigued

- elevated stress levels

- frequent diarrhea or constipation

- indigestion

- your wounds don't heal quickly

- you get infections or inflammations more frequently

- you are feeling tired all the time

What are those extra steps that could help you to boost your immune system to ease these symptoms?

Well, first a few words about why the immune system is so important:

The immune system is a network of cells and proteins that defends the body against infection. The immune system keeps a record of every germ (microbe) it has ever defeated so it can recognise and destroy the microbe quickly if it enters the body again.

What happens to our body if our immune system gets weak?

Your immune system can get weakened by several factors:

Lifestyle (not exercising, going to bed or waking up too late, alcohol, smoking and poor nutrition, not maintaining a healthy body weight).

Apart from developing the habit of exercising, sleeping at the right time, drinking less alcohol and quitting smoking, making sure you are taking in the right nutrients needed for your body, so you can maintain a healthy weight, what other natural ways are there to strengthen your immune system even more?

Here comes the first practice that benefits the immune system and helps with the following symptoms: feeling fatigued, elevated stress levels, feeling tired all the time and indigestion.

The Patting technique. Tapping will dilate blood vessels and increase blood flow to the area, which can remove free radicals and toxins, helping to stimulate collagen and improve skin quality and also helps lifting physical pain and improving emotional stability and cognitive work.

The Patting technique is applied on the lymph nodes directly. Lymph nodes are small glands that filter lymph from Latin, lympha meaning "water", the clear fluid that circulates through the lymphatic system. They become swollen in response to infection and tumors. The lymphatic system plays an integral role in the immune functions of the body. It is the first line of defense against disease.

The great advantage of this system is that you do not need any special equipment or tools to perform it at home. It doesn't take extra space and it only takes maximum 15 minutes a day, preferably in the morning or earlier hours, to wake up your body and mind.

The next technique can massively improve lung work, respiratory problems, cortisol levels, lowering blood pressure and improve the body's response to physical and mental stress.

The Buteyko breathing method.

People inhale oxygen and breathe out carbon dioxide - oxygen=good, CO2=bad. Prof. Buteyko discovered that those who were sick breathed much more than those who were healthy; that is, their tidal volume, depth & frequency were far greater.

Controlling nasal breathing would not only help to improve the lung but also improve those who suffer with acute bronchitis and asthmatic illnesses.

Diaphragmatic breathing:

Sometimes called belly breathing, it is a deep breathing technique that engages your diaphragm, a dome-shaped sheet of muscle at the bottom of your ribcage that is primarily responsible for respiratory function. When you inhale, the diaphragm contracts and moves downward.

Breathing slowlier will activate the parasympathetic nervous system which decreases the heart rate and opens up blood vessels, which will result in reducing the overall blood pressure. As the breathing becomes slower, your brain associates it with a state of relaxation.

And finally the third practice is how to develop your inner healer by raising the vibration (energy levels) of your own body and use it for stress and anxiety release purposes. The stress is the main villain, when it comes to immune system defence. When we're stressed, the immune system's ability to fight off antigens is reduced. These are the most common stress related symptoms:

  • Skin problems like acne

  • Headaches

  • Chronic pain

  • Frequent sickness

  • Low energy levels and insomnia

  • Changes in libido

  • Digestive issues

  • Appetite changes

  • Depression

  • Rapid heartbeat

  • Sweating

Sometimes taking action can be very hard and challenging. This is what makes the above mentioned techniques suitable to anybody, because they only take a few minutes daily but in the long run will greatly contribute to your physical and mental wellbeing. You can choose whether you do them yourself or you can follow them in a group with guidance.
